Paintings inspired by the sea, sky and shorelines

I was born and educated on the Isle of Wight at Carisbrooke Grammar school. After A levels I studied sculpture and ceramics at Bath Academy of Art and Hammersmith College of Art. I then completed a post graduate teaching course at Bognor Regis College of Education. I returned to the Island where I taught art and design at Ventnor Secondary, then Cowes High, Medina High and finally was Head of Art and Design at Ryde High school. I took early retirement in 1996.

Upon retiring from teaching I set up my own studio at home, and began selling my ceramic work through local and mainland galleries all over the UK.

In 2005 we left the Island and went to live in Cornwall, on the Lizard peninsula. It was a lovely change of scenery for a while, but at the end of 2008 we decided that the Island was really where we belong, and so we moved back, returning once more to our beloved Ventnor. We recently moved to an old coach house in Wroxall where I had a studio in the converted stables. Some time ago I stopped producing my ceramic works, but the desire to continue to be creatively productive remained. So I decided to take up painting again, and since then I've been producing paintings in acrylic on board and canvas, inspired by the sea, the sky and shorelines of the Island that have been so important a part of my life for as long as I can remember.
